Liberty Bell Drama Company Presents "The Magic Number"

Don’t miss out when Liberty Bell Drama Company adds it all up and reveals “The Magic Number”, a collection of modern short plays, monologue and song.

The Magic Number hits the stage at 7:00 PM on November 4, 6 and 7 at The Merc Playhouse. Doors open at 6:30. MVSD students and staff as well as families of the cast and crew will get in free. Tickets for general community members are $15 at the door. The performance is PG-13 and may not be appropriate for young children.

Come find out what the magic number is. Is it the 48,000 things on your all-important to-do list? Is it the 15 souls a Vietnam vet carries with him? Is it the 8 dolphins that need to pull Santa’s boat in the age of climate change? Is it the 19 reasons you should date Matthew Weaver? Is it the 5 people that make a family or the -1 that changes everything? Is it that 1 precious thing that makes you remember that you matter? Is it the 1 person that can make all the difference? And aren’t we all 1, all the same in the eyes of the sun?

Celebrating LBHS Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Recipients

Every year, 8th grade students participate in Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (in the writing category) as part of the Humanities class. Scholastic Awards are the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. Notable past winners include Stephen King, Joyce Carol-Oates, Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, and Amanda Gorman.

LBHS students participated in the West At-Large Region which includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. The competition is for grades 7-12 so our 8th graders were considered alongside seniors. Thousands of students across these nine states submitted work for consideration. Our 8th graders submitted work to different categories such as poetry, personal essay, dramatic script, and short story. Students who earn the top award, called Gold Key, will move on to be considered for a national award which will allow them to be published in the Scholastic national publication and earn a trip to New York City for a celebration of their work. Silver Key is the next level award. Honorable Mention is next.

This year, one student, Rowan Kelley, received a Gold Key award. Rowan was awarded a Gold Key for her personal essay titled "Summers and Sailing". Rowan's essay will now be considered for a national award, which will be announced June 11. Rowan also earned an Honorable Mention award in poetry for her poem called "Admiration".

What are your plans after Liberty Bell?
After graduation I'll be getting shipped off to the Army as an Airborne Infantryman, to go jump out of airplane's for Uncle Sam.
Any advice for the younger students?
My advice to the younger generation's is to remember that if someone says "The Government would never do that!", oh yes, they would.
Go get 'em Hunter!
