Students throughout the world and throughout the modern history of schools have done science projects and competed in science fairs. It is true that science fairs sometimes get a bad reputation: messy “volcanoes” and parents tearing their hair out the night before, but more concerningly, inequitable outcomes between students.

A science fair project implemented well, however, is a transformative learning experience. We have a plan to do just that. Be A Scientist an in-school, guided, independent science inquiry program, in which local scientist volunteers will mentor students through individual science projects.

In order to ensure the equity of student outcomes and to guarantee that ALL students conduct rigorous, experiment-based science inquiry projects, our plan has three parts:

*   First, the entire project will be done in school;
*   Second, we will provide all of the materials necessary for the students to do the experiments they propose; 
*   Third - and most importantly - students will be mentored through the project in small groups by local scientist volunteers.



### This means we need YOU to inspire the next generation of scientists!
